Cal AI founder Zach Yadegari launches Persona and raises $10M for a personal AI agent

On 8 October 2026, TechCrunch reported that 19-year-old Cal AI co-founder Zach Yadegari launched Persona, a personal AI agent startup, and had already raised $10 million led by Vine Ventures, with Z Fellows founder Cory Levy and Collective Global participating.

Persona runs today as a free beta inside iMessage, where the assistant books travel, orders food and rides, takes notes and answers email — the same consumer personal-AI wave that includes Instinct and Meta's Muse. Yadegari says a $179 wearable band will ship in December 2026, activating by button or wrist flick rather than always-listening audio, with cloud-side models, encrypted data and user-deletable history.

It is a task agent more than a romantic companion, but it shows where consumer-AI personal assistants are heading — and the trust, memory and safety expectations now attach to any AI that lives inside a user's daily life. Our 2026 industry report tracks the broader companion and personal-AI market.
