Romania-based startup Kyndred raised €500,000 in pre-seed funding on 29 September 2026, led by Early Game Ventures, to build AI companions that have a face, a voice and a memory that persists between conversations. The company says its first companion, Maya, launched commercially in summer 2026 and already has more than 150 paying customers.
Kyndred's pitch is a single companion that 'knows you' across apps rather than a different assistant in every tool — a persistent-relationship model it sets against general-purpose chatbots. The fresh capital will fund Maya's improvement, new characters, and hires in AI and product engineering.
The round is small but notable: companion-focused startups keep attracting early venture money even as the category faces tightening youth-safety regulation in the US, EU and China. Tech.eu and Romania Journal reported the funding.
