China's Today AI closes $200M+ round for proactive personal AI assistants

On 21 October 2026, Chinese personal-AI startup Today AI disclosed a first funding round of more than $200 million, reported by 36Kr and Guangming Online. The round was backed by Tencent, Ant Group, Sequoia China, IDG Capital, 5Y Capital, Transsion and others.

Today AI is building a proactive, memory-driven personal assistant — one that remembers what a user shares about their life and goals and steps in with suggestions at the right moment, rather than waiting to be asked. The team says it is also training its own interaction models to cut per-message cost and make the assistant sound more like 'someone who truly knows you.' It opened an overseas beta in September and a China version on 24 September before going public with the raise.

The raise lands on the same consumer-AI wave as US personal-agent launches covered here — though Today AI is squarely a utility assistant, not a romantic companion. It underlines where investor money is flowing in 2026: from open-ended chat toward assistants that remember you and act on your behalf. See our 2026 industry report for the broader funding climate.
